A Quality of Light represents my four-decade-long journey and passionate relationship with the art of photography. The genesis of these web galleries was a 30-year retrospective exhibit of the same name mounted in Detroit in the year 2000. The exhibit was named Photography Exhibit of the Year by the Observer and Eccentric newspapers.

Not everything in my photographic archives is published here, and many images may never be included. But A Quality of Light also provides some hints of where my work may be going in the future. As a native and life-long resident of Detroit, Michigan and its suburbs, I remain as infatuated with the automobile as I was when I was 16 years old. Many of the photographs in this collection illustrate that infatuation, through my approach to a closer and more intimate visual portrayal of the automobile. There will be more to come in this genre.

The beauty of the natural world - with a focus on my native state of Michigan and The Great Lakes - architecture, interior design, and the quality of light in its vast and unpredictable formulations will continue to be important elements of my work.

I hope that you find something to enjoy in this collection, and find a reason to return and look around. There will always be something new.

Thank you so much for your visit and for your interest in A Quality of Light.
